Pneumatic cylinders come in various types and follow international standards that define their design, dimensions, and interchangeability. ISO 15552 standard cylinders are widely used profile or round cylinders for general industrial automation, known for their modularity and standardized mounting dimensions, making them interchangeable across manufacturers. The ISO 6430 standard cylinders are older tie-rod style cylinders used in heavy-duty applications, often replaced by ISO 15552. Similarly, ISO 6431 cylinders are profile cylinders used in general automation and serve as predecessors to ISO 15552. ISO 6432 cylinders are miniature, stainless-steel-bodied cylinders designed for light-duty and compact spaces, typically without tie rods. For applications requiring compact size with standard bore dimensions, ISO 21287 cylinders offer short-body profile designs with limited stroke lengths compared to ISO 15552.  Various specialized cylinder types address specific functional needs. Compact cylinders are space-saving actuators offering high force in short stroke ranges, while PIN cylinders are small and precise, often used in applications requiring light pressing or indexing. Rodless cylinders allow the load to move along the body without a protruding piston rod, making them ideal for long-stroke, space-saving applications. Rotary cylinders convert pneumatic pressure into rotary motion and are used when turning or rotating actions are required. Dual rod cylinders, sometimes called double rod cylinders, feature two parallel rods providing high stability, resistance to twisting, and balanced force output on both sides of the piston.  Other guided and precision-oriented cylinders include twin guide cylinders and guide cylinders, both equipped with integrated guide rods to handle lateral loads and prevent rotation, ensuring accuracy in positioning. Pen cylinders are extremely compact and lightweight, resembling the size of a pen, and are suited for tight spaces or delicate automation tasks. Slide cylinders are designed with built-in sliding mechanisms to offer precise horizontal movement, while free mounted cylinders are versatile actuators that support direct and flexible mounting options. Non-rotating cylinders ensure the piston maintains a fixed orientation throughout its stroke, ideal for applications requiring controlled alignment.  For gripping and part-handling, pneumatic grippers use compressed air to operate jaws that securely pick and place objects, commonly used in robotic and assembly-line applications. Finally, the SDA series compact cylinders represent a specific model range known for their short body, space efficiency, and availability in various bore sizes, making them popular in compact automation systems.

Pneumatic systems rely on various components to ensure efficient, safe, and precise operation. Pneumatic connectors and pneumatic fittings quick couplers are essential for securely connecting air lines and enabling fast, leak-free connections and disconnections, often without tools. To transport compressed air within the system, polyurethane tubes and nylon tubes are commonly used—polyurethane offers excellent flexibility and kink resistance, making it ideal for dynamic applications, while nylon provides higher pressure resistance and is suitable for more static or heavy-duty installations. Air blow guns are handheld tools used to clean surfaces or blow away debris using compressed air.  To reduce noise and protect pneumatic equipment, brass silencers and plastic silencers are installed at exhaust ports; brass versions are more durable, while plastic silencers are lightweight and economical. Flow control silencers combine muffling and flow regulation, helping to control cylinder speed while minimizing noise. In vacuum-based systems, vacuum pads (also called suction cups) provide secure grip on objects during lifting or transfer, while vacuum ejectors generate vacuum using compressed air, commonly used in pick-and-place automation.  Mechanical mounting components like the rod end clevis and rod end fish eye (or spherical rod end) provide flexible and articulated connections between actuators and load points, accommodating misalignment and movement. To maintain air quality and system performance, a filter regulator lubricator (FRL) unit is essential—it filters out contaminants, regulates pressure, and adds lubrication to extend component life. Pressure regulators, whether as part of an FRL or standalone, ensure consistent downstream pressure regardless of fluctuations in the supply, which is critical for process stability and equipment protection.
